Positions:
Maintenance Team Lead Role
The Maintenance Team Leader position is offered in partnership with Unturning Steel, Inc. as part of our DoD SkillBridge-approved program. This front-line leadership opportunity places transitioning service members at the heart of a world-class manufacturing operation while building their civilian career readiness. Through our hybrid program, participants complete the University of Tennessee’s Reliability & Maintainability Implementation Certification (RMIC) and are paired with General Mills to apply reliability concepts directly to the plant floor.
This role focuses on driving maintenance performance, reducing downtime, and building systems that support long-term operational excellence. You’ll gain experience in planning and scheduling, technical coaching, and continuous improvement, with real responsibilities that contribute to the company’s mission. Ideal for those with maintenance, logistics, or operations experience looking to transition into leadership roles in industry.
UTS supports each participant with onboarding, mentorship, and post-internship transition coaching. This role is part of a growing national network of manufacturing partners committed to hiring veterans into meaningful careers. Positions are available at both General Mills Hannibal and Wellston plants.

This SkillBridge opportunity is designed for service members with strong technical, systems-thinking, and leadership skills who are ready to solve real-world manufacturing challenges. As a Reliability Engineer, you’ll help shift a plant’s culture from reactive to proactive maintenance, lead strategic initiatives, and drive measurable equipment reliability improvements.
Through Unturning Steel’s SkillBridge program, participants complete hybrid training that includes the University of Tennessee’s Reliability & Maintainability Implementation Certification (RMIC) alongside immersive project work at either the General Mills Hannibal or Wellston plant.
Responsibilities include:
Leading root cause analysis, maintenance metrics, and component life-cycle improvement
Driving the plant’s Breakdown Elimination (BE) and Asset Care Strategy (ACS)
Collaborating across engineering, maintenance, and operations
Leading CMMS data analysis (Maximo) and coaching technician performance
Supporting capital design for reliability and long-term plant performance
Ideal candidates bring:
4+ years of experience in maintenance, logistics, reliability, or technical operations
Engineering degree or equivalent technical background
Experience in leading projects and data-informed decision-making
Ability to coach, influence, and work across teams
Candidate Development Outcomes:
Gain technical leadership experience in industrial reliability engineering
Strengthen problem-solving, root cause analysis, and capital project design
Build cross-functional collaboration and coaching skills
Use reliability data to support high-stakes operational decisions
Develop a professional portfolio with direct industry relevance
