William “Bill” Leahy
Founder & CEO
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Bill also holds an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill and multiple professional certifications in reliability, maintenance, and operational leadership. As a Reliability & Operational Excellence Consultant, he has helped companies improve system performance, reduce downtime, and build resilient teams—insights he now brings to Unturning Steel’s national programs.
Bill founded UTS in 2022 after losing his brother—one of more than 125,000 veterans who have died by suicide since 2001. His personal mission is to combat this crisis by providing community, purpose, and certainty through career pathways in U.S. manufacturing. Through its DoD SkillBridge program, UTS recruits, trains, certifies, and places veterans into high-demand industrial roles—creating a win-win for veterans and American manufacturers.
Bill’s leadership has earned national recognition, including the “Best Cultural Innovation” award from Efficient Plant magazine. UTS continues to grow as a veteran transition program, filling critical roles in an industry facing a shortage of over 500,000 skilled jobs. In partnership with the University of Tennessee’s Reliability & Maintainability Center, UTS ensures that veterans are not only employed—but positioned to thrive.<br
Based in Southeastern New England, Bill is a devoted community member and youth sports coach. He remains passionate about building a MADE IN AMERICA culture that honors military service, strengthens families, and restores American industry—one veteran at a time.
